Itinerary

Day 1: Journey to the Reserve
  • Morning Departure: Pickup from Iquitos accommodation, followed by a 1 hr 45 min drive to Nauta. Brief introduction to Iquitos and surroundings.
  • Boat Ride: Enjoy a private boat journey, 3 hours upriver, with opportunities to look out for river dolphins, herons, turtles, and stunning flora.
  • Santo Domingo Checkpoint: Register entrance to the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
  • Arrival at Buenos Aires: Continue by boat, spotting wildlife along the way.
  • Jungle Walk & Nocturnal Hike: Explore the primary jungle and take a night walk to spot spiders, snakes, and more.
  • Overnight: Stay in a village house with mosquito-netted beds.


Day 2: Deep Jungle Exploration
  • Early Morning: Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise and look out for monkeys and sloths.
  • Canoe Ride & Wildlife: Paddle along the riverbanks to observe morning wildlife activity.

  • Giant River Otters: Excursion to spot these rare mammals.
  • Night Canoeing & Walk: Explore the jungle at night to observe wildlife, including armadillos and agoutis.
  • Overnight: Camp in the jungle in tents.


Day 5: Return Journey
  • Early Morning Canoeing: Birdwatching along the riverbanks and inside the jungle.
  • Jungle Walk & Wildlife: Final chance to explore the lakes and see primates.
  • Return to Nauta: Stop at Buenos Aires for a break and to support the community by purchasing handicrafts.
  • Ground Transport: Back to Iquitos, with drop-off at your accommodation or the airport.
